CORE4: Devoted to God’s Word

CORE4: Devoted to God’s Word

Life-Giver Church exists to know Christ and make Him known in Windsor Ontario. We do this as a church family by adhering to 4 core values, God’s Word, Prayer, Missions/Church Planting and Discipleship. This installation of CORE4 will deal with the importance of a devotion to God’s Word.

God’s Written Word

The most loved and hated book of all time is without a doubt, the bible. But the bible is not just some random religious book, like many might assume. The bible consists of 66 books, written by 40 different people, in different places over thousands of years. It is completely uniform, without contradiction and is filled with supernatural prophecy and wisdom that has passed the test of time. At the end of the day, the bible is the word of God and is our ultimate source for all things pertaining to God and life. The bible is a closed document, it is not open to editorial consideration or addition. No personal revelation or experience of man is authoritative over the word of God and any revelation that directly contradicts the bible is too be disregarded and paid no attention to.

God’s Main Point: Jesus Christ

Every good book has a main point or thesis. The word of God is no different. The main point of the bible is not an intellectual or philosophical principle, but rather a person, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is literally the Word of God made flesh. (John 1:14) If Jesus is the physical manifestation of God’s Word, and God’s Word is a core value to us, then Jesus Christ must be our central focus in our study of the bible. At Life Giver Church we read the bible with Jesus colored glasses. We believe that all of Scripture is about the main point, Jesus Christ. We believe this because Jesus Himself told us this is true. In John 5:39 Jesus makes this remarkable statement about Himself while talking with religious rulers,

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me.”

We can search the Scriptures for a number of reasons, but the main reason must be to discover and experience the person of Christ. The bible is like a court document, and all of it testifies about Jesus. It tells us of His character, His purpose and His essence. We are above all a Christ-centered church, and as such, we see Christ as central to our devotion of God’s Word.

Devoted and Submitted

The bible tells us in Acts 2:42 that the church was, “devoted to the Apostles teachings.” If you examine the Apostles teaching you will soon discover the thesis of their message was the person and work of Jesus Christ. They referenced the Old Testament and always connected it to the Gospel of Jesus. The early Church was devoted to the word of God, which exalts and reveals Jesus Christ. If the Universal Church was a river, then Life-Giver Church flows in the same current as those first believers in Jerusalem.

God has always had a remnant of true believers through all of history. As a church we seek to join the great cloud of witnesses of those who came before us and were faithful to steward the truth of God. Like our forefathers in the faith, we are devoted and submitted to the authority of the Word of God. Whether it is popular or not, we stand on the solid rock of God’s eternal Word. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.

God’s Word for Windsor, Ontario Canada

The Church began on Pentecost in Jerusalem some 2000 years ago, and from there it has spread throughout the whole world. Because of biblically faithful men and women the message of Jesus Christ has reached us in Windsor, Ontario Canada. We are devoted to the Word of God, because Windsor needs it, and so does the world. There is no more pressing need then for God to raise up biblically faithful, praying churches in our city of Windsor, Ontario. There are many church buildings in Windsor, but not many churches. We are constrained by the Spirit of God to bring the Word of God to all people, starting in our own backyard!
